DWS Hydrological Services & National Gauging Station Network

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) Hydrology directorate operates approximately 3,000 flow gauging stations across South Africa. Provides daily discharge data, water levels, rating tables, peak flows, and dam levels. Data is organised by drainage region — the Incomati Basin falls under regions X1 (Komati), X2 (Crocodile/Sabie), and X3 (lower Incomati). Both real-time (unverified) and historically verified flow data are available. Key Incomati stations include X2H014 (Sabie at Perry's Farm), X2H016 (Lower Sabie), X1H003 (Komati at Tonga), and X2H022 (Crocodile at Ten Bosch). The DWS gauging network is the primary source of flow data for water resource planning, ecological Reserve determinations, and environmental flow assessments in South Africa.
