Inkomati-Usuthu CMA Stakeholder Engagement Framework

The stakeholder engagement framework of the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA), based in Mbombela (Nelspruit), South Africa. The IUCMA operates within the Inkomati-Usuthu Water Management Area covering the Incomati and Usuthu river basins. Its Institutions and Participation functional area is responsible for mobilising stakeholders for water resource decision-making. Key engagement mechanisms include: Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Forums established under Section 80 of the NWA where decisions are taken by affected and interested stakeholders, Stakeholder empowerment workshops with historically disadvantaged individuals in the Sabie, Sand, Upper Komati, and Lower Komati sub-catchments, Inter-governmental Relations (IGR) forums, Environmental activities (Water Week, World Environment Day, Wetland Forums), and workshops with emerging farmers. The IUCMA's mission emphasises consensual and adaptive decision-making to achieve reform and promote social, economic and environmental justice.
