SADC Regional Water Policy (2005)

Strategic framework for regional water resources management adopted by SADC member states in 2005. Supports implementation of the Revised Protocol on Shared Watercourses. Covers key thematic areas: water governance and institutional development, water for socio-economic development (agriculture, energy, industry), water supply and sanitation, water for environmental sustainability, climate variability and change, water resources information and management, infrastructure development and financing, and capacity building. Emphasises IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) as the guiding approach. Promotes stakeholder participation, gender mainstreaming, and regional cooperation. Accompanied by the SADC Regional Water Strategy which provides the implementation roadmap.
